Chappy: "Okay now to just relax for once in the past three years and enjoy new pony and forgot about my problems."

Sunny: "So anyway DEAD DAD and stuff."

Chappy: "Cool. That's fine. That's totally fine."

I liked it! I, as my simple ass often does, had a good time watching it, and it has left me curious about the events that transpired between the end of FiM and now, because this is CLEARLY a sequel and they are not subtle about it at all. Using the Mane Six as toys and in an imaginary sequence could've just been referencing them as a nod to G4 in an otherwise unrelated world, but having there be straight up Wonderbolts art, and Twilight's cutie mark prominently displayed in stained glass is an entirely other thing.

I assume they straight up stated this in marketing, but I haven't exactly been paying attention, so the movie ITSELF is all I'm going by!

So yeah there's plenty of potential material for a series here, and I do hope they intend to explain the major events that took place during the timeskip, because nopony seems to know and that would be a neat mystery to solve. A New Generation gets my overall approval, as though that means anything!

With the overall positivity out of the way, some criticisms:

1. Sunny so far is not as interesting as Twilight, even just comparing the new movie to the FiM pilot episodes, because Sunny is just correct and doesn't need to change, unlike Twilight who was ultimately forced to confront a character flaw before she could save the day.

2. It really didn't take much for Sunny to just give up, and it made the low spot ring a bit hollow. I also wonder how Maretime Bay wasn't on full alert ready to arrest her the second she got back. Personally I would've had the Mane Five discuss things, realize there's a big round hole between the gems, then wonder if there's an Earth Pony gem before returning to Maretime Bay to look for clues only to find it a fortress they now have to work together to get into.

3. The conflict gets resolved a little... TOO easily, I guess? If all it ultimately took was a few ponies talking between the tribes to make hostilities cease and the spirit of old Equestria return almost instantly, it just makes one wonder what the fuss was all about in the first place. Were they feuding so long that they just FORGOT why?

4. Phyllis and Sprout get off way, WAY too easily. Sprout almost started a war and wrecked Sunny's ENTIRE GOD DAMN HOUSE, and this was after Phyllis spent DECADES profiting off sewing fear among the Earth Pony tribe. I'm not saying BEHEAD THEM IN TOWN SQUARE or something but they should've been knocked down a peg in some visible, substantial way.

5. For Celestia's sake I hope Sunny is not permanently an alicorn already, because if Twilight is the precedent, this means we're already past our new main character's time to be an interesting character.

For all I know all these complaints will be addressed within a couple episodes once the followup series begins so we'll see what happens, but I overall like what I see so far.

HEY MAYBE I'LL WRITE THINGS AGAIN, IMAGINE THAT! ME, WRITING? WHAT DELIGHTFUL NONSENSE!

So there's a good ol' massive California MEGAFIRE burning close enough to me that they're issuing evacuation warnings, the whole world is orange outside, the smoke is so thick we can't see beyond our property anymore, and there's ash falling like a more restrained version of the Silent Hill movie. We already have the essentials packed up in the car and we're basically waiting until shit officially hits the fan to get the fuck out. Hopefully by my next blog post here I still have a fucking house, but at least if it does burn down it'll be a good excuse to finally move the fuck out of this hell state. My computer equipment will be the last thing to be packed so rest assured no progress will be lost on my stories.
